Wear and tear
« on: December 15, 2006, 11:41:50 am »
Something that has been on my mind of late is dress for teachers at school. I have recently seen a number of different teachers going about their daily routine in a number of different outfits. Has anyone any vies on this subject? For example ay my school it is collar and tie with dark trousers. Having said that I have seen teachers here in anything but the afore mentioned.

My current school is shirt (or polo shirt is acceptable) and trousers - no tie necessary.  Sports day once a week is casual (tracky bottoms and polo shirt for me).

Mondays are yellow shirt and black pants days. Fridays are school shirt days. Tuesdays through Thursdays are shirt and tie days. Short sleeved shirts are allowed. Dress slacks on all days.

Yo, peeps, I split off the posts about rudeness over to the Sour Gripes, let's keep this about dress code related insanities.

My mate is a slob at heart, the opposite of a fashion model.  But he's not stupid.  He was the only Western teacher in a provincial school.  Every day, he wore black slacks, black leather shoes, long sleeve shirts, and a tie.  He bought them all at Tesco Lotus or Bata shoes, but he looked like the Thai teachers. One day of the week to wear sports or traditional shirts, and he imitated the Thai teachers.  They always said he dressed sharply.  He hated wearing a tie, but he played the game.  He said, "I make mistakes.  This crazy clothing crap will make up for it."

I think that if you dress smart you get more respect from the teachers and the students. As the guy said you can get your clothes from the market,Bata or any place they don't have to be top name brands. After all they are working clothes.
