visa requirements for brazil
« on: November 22, 2006, 07:12:55 AM »
Im about to start a TESOL and want to work in Rio De Janeiro.
On the below web page it states that I would require a certificate of prosecution, which is available from any UK police station. Four years ago I got a minimum ban (9 months) from driving because of drink driving, but no fine, I suspect this would show on such a certificate although I have since had a basic Criminal Records Bureau check  for my present job and it did not show up on this. If it did show, does anyone know if this would this affect my chances of obtaining a work visa for Brazil?

Thanks :)

If you can find a job that sponsors you in Brazil, you are ahead of the game already. My advice, get the certificate and see what shows up. Ain't much way around it. Brazil makes ya file for the pinche visa in your home country so ain't no way to avoid it. I can't imagine that Brazil would deny you a visa for drunk driving so you may not have much to lose.

Any other takers?

Thanks for the advice on that one. When you say "sponsor" are you referring to them paying for my visa? does this cost a lot? money shouldnt be a problem, because ive got a well paid job right now, but im just bored of it! i dont like sitting behind a desk all the time, especially here in the UK, its grim in winter! i need to get out and see some of the world!

To get the visa, you need a company or school in Brazil to hire you and sponsor your visa. Sponsor doesn't mean dinero, just the company gives the docs you need to get the visa. They say, hey Mr. Consul give this dude a visa  to come work at my school. FYI, oodles of teachers in Brazil are on 6 month tourist visas.
