Canadian Institute of English
« on: October 16, 2006, 05:52:27 PM »
Hello. I'm just letting you in on something I think everyone should know. There's a TESOL progarm offered by Canadian Institute of English. http://www.cie.ca. And they have a degree program which you should absolutely stay away from. They are affiliated with a University called Weston Reserve and it's not accredited as they say it is. The website to Weston Reserve is here. www.westonreserve.org. And here's a link that reveals what you need to know. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weston_Reserve_University

Weston Reserve University is an unaccredited institution of higher learning which claims accreditation by the Royal Family of Kuwait to award degrees for "vocational experience" and course work, although it appears to operate mainly in the United States and Canada. It does not appear on UNESCO's list of accredited universities in Kuwait, or on the databases of accredited institutions in the USA or elsewhere.

On a regular basis Canadian Institute of English changes Universities. They went from a University in Russia (I can't remember what it's called) to a University in Mexico (which they did not remain with for very long) and then they went to this University. In my opinion, the Canadian Institute of English is deceiving and it's another degree mill. So they have students who took their 5 day TESOL course and on their website they have comments by the students that say the course was excellent. Now here's the thing. They will only put the students "positive" comments on their website along with their email addresses. So anyway I emailed some of the students and even some of them said that the "degree" program wasn't worth it. One said she was dissapointed with the correspondence she received. Another said that the credibility really concerns him. And a 3rd said that the degree was a complete rip off. And these are students who are listed on CIE's website on the "What the students say" section.

A couple final words, please pass this on to who ever you can.

Also if you are a degreeless person, you won't have as many opportunities open to you in Asia. You wanna go to Korea, Japan, or Taiwan and make alot of money? Only way you can do it, go to a real university in your own country, do the time, spend the money, there's no way around it. Fake degrees don't work. You've gotta do the time in a classroom. Wish it were easier, but it's not.

I understand the general point, but with regard to Korea, there is another way.

Plenty of people come here 'degreeless' and work illegally on Tourist Visa's.

I am not advocating it; but it is a fact.

I know a few guys right now who have been here (Korea) for over a year and consistently making $4000 USD a month.
