chitirwittaya school on ramintra 42
« on: April 17, 2006, 09:05:10 pm »
To all unsuspecting ,good hearted trusting teachers like me , BE AWARE!
Last december I got recruited at this dodgy , shady school called chitirwittaya on Ram intra soi42 through a questionable agency  which by the way was owned by the mother of former Miss Thailand!.Upon starting , some teachers began talking to me about the mess and a trap that they were in and repeatedly warned me about it so, I wont fall victim like they had. At first , I wasn't sure of their true motives and felt there might be some hidden agenda. The teachers told me that for the first two months , they will pay me on time and after they gain my trust , they will start slacking on the pretext that the school was broke. Some of them hadn;t been paid as long as a month and half. I would always ask them why they didn't leave the job and they would respond without any hesitation that they were too afraid to leave because , they would never see that money ever as sign of revenge on the part of the school owner. So I decided to confront the school manager whom by the way is the school's owner nephew about it. To make the story short , he never assured me that I would always get paid on time. I finally got tired of being concerned about getting paid on time so , I decided to leave the school after working there for about 8 or 9 days. When I called the school manager to inquier about my pay for those days worked , he asked me about the reason I left the school. I told him , when we come to work , we give you our 100 percent and we dont tell you we will do the rest of the work next month. I also advised him that I expected the same from him 100 percent on time with 100 percent full salary. He got irritated and asked me if that had happened to me already and I replied , what had made him think that it wouldn't happen to me. After all was I that special that he wouldn't do that to me after doing it to all the teachers with out exception!.So,to cut the story even shorter , he gave me runaround for the payment of that few days that I worked saying the owner wasn't in which by the fact was her Aunt!. So , after running after it for couple of months to no avail. I decided to be little more persuassive!.I told them if they didn't pay me. I will let all the parents know what kind of scam they were running! .They got scared and gave me a date to go there to pick up my money. When that day came , the owner was no were to be found and I had to go home empty handed which took me one hour by the way!.I finally decided to make good on my threat and passed out some flyers near the school to parents and the students. That really ticked them off. The owner went ahead of every body else to the police station and by using her influence and her money convinced police to scare me by threating to lock me up if I didnt stop. They said there was a law in Thailand under defamation law which you can't make any bad wrap for any body. I vigioursly defended my action by saying that I excersied my right of freedom of speech and by telling the truth. Any way , for the next hour I was struggling to make my point. I kept saying by using so called defamation law they can shut up any body they want or simply do censorship!. I was so mad , that I wasnt willing to budge, because I knew my cause was just. I realized they were not gonna let go neither and they were really determind to stop me this time. I called my wife to come to police staion as interpreter . We both realized after some time that police was so corrupt and the school had the money to wrap the cops around their fingers, there was no winning at that police staion. But that wasn't the end. Now she the witch the school owner demanded apology and police told my wife that if I didn't apologise , they would lock me up which to me was an obvious scare tactic.Any way being a Farang in this corrupt country with no money , some times you have to swallow your pride and do the wrong thing for the right reasons!. She made me sign a paper recounting every thing I had claimed under threat of being locked up. But ,for me that is not the end. I will use any means I can to tell  other teachers what these con -artists low lives are all about. The school manager name is Joe. I forgot the owners name. Here are some other facts that other ffarang teachers told me . even though she made me recount that but the truth can never be changed. When the owner told the teachers she didnt have any money to pay them according to the teachers , she was taking lavishing trips to Vietnam and Cambodia. When she was behind over a month paying her teachers , she was giving some heavy money to local temples!.And to top that off , she used the money to buy another property  to build another school. Please remember that this is  a ripp off school and you will get cheated 100 percent guaranteed! Fortunatly or unfortunatly , this is Thailand and there is no rule of law , specially , if you are Farang!. Show these scum bags where they belong , please put them in the hall of shame.

My dear American patriot;
I am currently a teacher at chitirwittaya and thank god finally some one had the balls to step up to the mike and blow the whistle!.Every thing you mentioned in your report is true except for the address. It is actually on Ram Intra soi 44 not 42,just so the rest will know. I am really sorry about what happened to you.I can't say my name here because the school still owes me from the last semester! and I am afraid of the repraisals!. I strongly urge all the present and previous teachers to vent out their frustation with con-artist owner of that school by writing and sharing their experinces on this web site and hopefully avoid some body else to become another victim of her trap. God bless you brother and more power to you.

Hi, I tought at that School last year . The owner of that school also gave  me lot of runarounds when it came to pay me my salary. Some times she got behind as far as two months!. Not even for a moment I believed her when she told me she didn't have the money , because , she kept travelling abroad , while we were starving and slaving our bottoms for her!. That school after being in existance for over 25 years , has only 150 students!. That oughtta tell you there is some thing seriously wrong with  the school. I finally told them that I was going back home and I gave her 30 days notice, but , at the end of the month , she refused to pay me my salary saying that I was leaving her school for another and that gave her the right , not to pay me. It has been almost one year ,and she still refuses to pay me. This is a definitly a no-no school for all the farang teachers.

Change, but not for the better.

Finally, someone else has found this site to mention the bird's school.  It seems by recent posts that the dragon lady at least stays scarce now.  When she was around she was quite talented at insults. After agreeing to work at the school i was shipped off to a meditation camp of the owner's choosing for the first week of work.  Unfortunately, this tells quite clearly where much of the school's money goes... straight to the UFO in Pathumthani.
I see that paying teachers is still a problem, as well as general atmosphere.
School Record:
 >:DHired a PhD to be principal of the 'international school'- when he left due to differences, with advanced notice his pay was stopped, and he was threatened with a lawsuit.
:'(Hired an educational specialist as academic coordinator. After he was given a cheap seat to fly to the school and got deep vein thrombosis, she insisted he pay for all medical treatment.
 >:D To this day, features 'consultants' on the website who came to the school once, including some spouses whom have nothing to do with the school.
  >:D Pays for construction in the school as long as there is construction, once it is finished, payment is stopped; as we found out when the pool sprung a leak and the installation company demanded 14 months back pay before they would come help us.
 >:D All students and staff were 'asked' to help reorganize the outer garden for one day.

If ever there was a school that is all icing and no cake, this is it. Most parents take their kids out once they see some of the things that go on. But the low tuition and small class size encourages many to stay on.
Oh yes, and the technical gadgetry like computers, TVs and overhead projectors aren't necessary here in Thailand, because it is a bright, sunny country, not like those northern climes, where darkness reigns. ???
If you do choose to go on at this school, be ready to have the oxymoronic 'preachy buddhism' given to you.

Oh yeah, she slapped my hand in front of students when i was eating Thai style with my fingertips once... Lucky i liked the students so much...

Come on, is this for real?  I really do find this one a little hard to swallow.

Surely if you don't get your salary you tell them to stick their school up their arse, rather than to continue working for them and have the problem repeated every month?

And as for Ameri Pat, I can't think of too many schools that would pay you after walking out after 8 days employment, if I were the school manager and you had just walked out on a contract with me, unless we had otherwise agreed or you had suffered some terrible misfortune, I too would tell you to go whistle for ya baht. And then to go to all that trouble for 8 days pay, (which imho you didn’t really have any claim on after walking out on ya contract), seems somewhat bizarre, unless of course you were on a whack of 100,000k a month.

Having been told you would get paid your first two months wages, why didn’t you stay until pay day and then knob off, giving the manager a two finger salute as you passed through the gates for the last time?

I’d like to hear some more misdemeanors before crucifying them as this, to me, sounds like someone has an axe to grind, but I will be happy to be proved wrong!

Evidentiary proceedings
Okay, i am a professional, i liked the kids and thought it very unfair to walk out on them, as they had already gone through several teachers the year before.  I thought for their sakes i would stick around.  However, my electricity and water bills frequently lapsed as i was forced to decide between eating and being cool at night w/ a/c.
If the evidence given so far is not enough...
--visiting universities have given the owner her own nickname 'dragonlady' because as she is talking politely to your face her tail comes around and smacks you.
--- The school once won an award for excellence, before any Intensive English or bilingual program.
-- you will be proselytized to, and frequently dragged to the ufo in pathumthani.  (Hey I'm all for calming and meditation, but it's not a business)
-- There are times toward the end of the year when the Thai teachers are paid weekly; a couple hundred baht, just to keep them going. The contracted pay rate is good, but the second semester, the school tends to have problems collecting (one series of parent teacher conferences was stolen by the owner as she pleaded with parents to pay, leaving us 15 minutes to talk with any parents who wanted to show up.
--- there is no loan ready to pay the teachers as the owner lost all her money in bad investments in '97. and no bank now trusts her.
--- several times i was handed partial payment with an 'i'm sorry' expression by the office staff.
--- turn in all copies you want at least 48 hours ahead of time . Pay for the copies you make.

If this is not enough... go and interview there... find out for yourself, but don't say you weren't warned.  I don't get personal... and boy could i

I appericite all the people who have contributed to my article and sharing their smilar experiences and I certainly believe in freedom of expression. But my address goes to ' anyone for tennis' Bud , you need to get your head out of your ass and smell the roses! or may be you are dislexic or some thing! . Read my article again, Do you think I would have accepted any kind of employment from them , had they told me that , they pay the salary , oh , let's say two or three months late at the time of the interview?! The fact is  they didn't tell me in the begining what kinda scam they were running, only after few says of working , after I confronted the management about the allegation, they said there was no guarantee whether I or any teacher would get paid on time ok?! So , they breached the contract not me and as the result I should get paid for whatever hours or days I put in. but , you know what! you are the exact type they are lookong for, a naive sorry ass! so since you feel so sorry for them , why don't you go and slave your ass for them for a change? And as far as the other teachers , as one commentator mentioned , it was combination of fearing of not getting paid at all if they left and bonding that they had formed with the students . But , I am not mad at you because , as you said , it is real hard for you to swallow!

Leaving aside for the moment the veracity of the claims in the OP, but isn't there a public body one can go to for some assistance? The Thai MoE for example?

I am sure I , along with the rest of the grieving teachers have exhausted all the options to no avail!. What you need to understand is this is 'Thailand'. It is not what you know , it is who you know!. When you combine the mother of former Miss. Thailand which ownes the school who has some pulls with the corrupted goverment agencies , it is like crying in the desert, no one can hear you!.When you are Farang going against a Thai , unless you haven't been here long , you will see that they are not very receptive!. So all I and the rest of the cheated teachers can do is to warn the other teachers not to become the next bait!.

American Pat, I can assure you that my head is far from my ass, and whilst you maybe quite right in assuming that I am dyslexic until you improve the level of your writing skills to above your current P3 level I don't think that is an accusation you have any right to be throwing around.

I've read your article again as suggested, and once again I experienced a lot of trouble following your ramblings, much the same as when trying to read what a 5 or 6 year old maybe trying to write about.

However I have not replied to you purely for the satisfaction of winding you up, I would like to inform you that if everything you and others say about the school is true then I agree with all of your actions and offer my whole hearted support to you and others that have suffered under this hugely oppressive regime.

Ameri Pat, I really couldn’t give a piss in the wind whether you are mad at me or not, and you know what, I’m not the exact type they are looking for, because, unlike you my American pal, I would never use the services of a questionable agency and therefore I probably don’t have ‘gullible tw*t’ written across my forehead.

One final thought, clearly you are using American English to my British English, but even so, how does “a little hard to swallow” translate into “real hard to swallow”, please explain.

In reply to Harry, yes I believe there is a government agency who will investigate dodgy goings on at schools - however I can't for the life of me remember their bloody name, I think a quick chat with a local law firm would be the best starting point.

I for one did not use a recruitment agency, but spoke directly with the owner, gullible twit was not written on me.  I was hired because of my skills and abilities,  (B.A. Applied Linguistics U of Oregon, +7 years teaching in various bilingual schools in the US and Thailand)  The offers and the demeanor upon applying are as though you are being welcomed into a happy family.  Direct statements are made that reasons for hiring are to promote you and adequately use skills.  Any suggestion i or the PhD i worked with made were summarily dismissed.  When a problem arose between a highly skilled and greatly experienced teacher came up, the owner went first to the student and then accused said teacher of not doing his job properly... The man once owned his own Graduate school...  My advice, give it a miss, there may not be immediate signs of the bad treatment, but they pile up until you have to make a choice, do you screw the kids, who have watched many backpacker and agency types walk in and out, or do you stick with it for their sakes, so they have some consistency and a good teacher for a while?  I chose to stick it out for one year then split...
