What do teachers really do?
« on: March 24, 2006, 12:28:25 am »
I'm an internet junky me, always have been {-}

Surfing the net bores the pants off me most of the time, yet I still reckon it's what I spend 50% of my day doing!

Some teachers seem to never leave the classroom.  Some are never in the classroom!  Some disappear to a "special place" for 40 winks, while others give the impression of never doing anything at all.  And of course some are just eternal "charmers" {<>

So what do you every day?  How do you get through the day?  Is it right that I spend more time on the net than teaching, marking and prepping combined?

I guess my main activity is teaching, which accounts for about 40% to 50% of my time at work on average. Lesson preparation accounts for about another 15%. The rest is split between admin, drinking coffee, meetings and the internet.

Teach of course, prep, grade papers, write exams blah balh blah. I also get in a few hours work on my dissertation or writing articles (and now a book). Also waste too much time on the internet, but it helps when one gets a bit of writers block to think of other things and let the idea to come to you.

Some of the foreigners here at my school actually have the nerve to write something on the whiteboard, tell the students to copy it, and surf the internet while they spend 20min writing down a long list of words. After the all are done, he makes them write a sentence with each one and goes back to some porn site. Sick. Susan
