Family - this is always a good one. I've had a lot of success with this one at the M-1 level

Thai Sayings - A great way to get students talking!
« Reply #24 on: December 07, 2007, 07:54:17 PM »
I've found a great way to get mid to upper level M3 students to get talking....explaining Thai sayings and superstitions.

What I've done is:
Explained what a "saying" is.  "The early bird gets the worm." and "A rolling stone gathers no moss"  are two that are easy to explain.

Elicit example of Thai sayings.  Needless to say, they will find it hard to explain in English.  Let them know its ok.  But........

Tell them you are really interested in Thai saying and ask them to do this:

Divide them into groups of 4-5 students.  Write on the board the following:

Project - Thai Sayings
Make this for 10 Thai sayings.

The saying in Thai
The phonetic pronounciation of the saying in Thai so the teacher can understand.
The direct translation of the saying in English.
What the real meaning of the saying in English.
Draw a picture of the saying.

When the project is presented, have each student in the group explain a saying or two.

For the EP students I had them do the same thing on PowerPoint.  Check out the attachment for a sample.

Here is an intermediate business English lesson designed for adults. It will take at least two hours. It includes lesson plans and worksheets. You will have to do some photocopying and cutting. Enjoy!

This lesson comes in two parts. In this post, I have the lesson plan, worksheet, and the flash cards. In the next post is the activity sheet (get it too. It has a great game!). Anyway . . . this lesson is a vocab builder for early prathom students. It focuses on basic job titles.
