UBC vs. Satellite TV services.
« on: October 14, 2007, 04:04:53 PM »
Just got a couple of questions....

I've got UBC satellite right now.  I've seen services like Dynasat and would like to know the pros/cons of each.  I looked at the Dynasat website and as most of it was in Thai, I'm not sure I understood anything but 300 channels...only a few to me appeared to be in English.

I would love to hear comments on each.  I'm currently spending about 2k/month and dynasats top end package was 17K..in less than a year, it would pay for itself.

Thanks,
RR

Mods...the link you sent me was over two years old.....

I'm changing from UBC satellite service to cable.  I post updates about the quality of service as the UBC sat service is often, in my experience, screwed by just a dark cloud going by.  My ASSUMPTION is that the internet service is a bit more reliable.

Also, I'm going to inquire about cable modem for internet and other services once I get it installed.

Will keep you informed.  So far I'm very impressed with UBC's service.

If that Dynasat uses Dream then you might have wanted to go with Dream since Dream is the satellite provider in the Philippines.......

I am looking at getting Dream installed in our new house.

A friend of mine had a huge dish on his roof and hundreds of channels, which were all a pile of crap!

He picked it up off a mate and didn't have any subscription services, just every free channel from Delhi to Dili I think .... waste of time.

There are services available in Bangkok I think, even one that picks up a lot of sport from Africa - loads of cricket and rugby I think.  But they have had to drop the Premier League football I believe now that True are an exclusive Thai provider.  The only way to get the best of both worlds is to have both services froma  sport point of view.

Don't know how it fares with other stuff, but the only thing that ever interested me on TV was sport for which UBC was shit.  When they changed the football to Thai presentation I dropped it altogether.  My better half moaned about missing CSI, but you can easily pick up full series of it on DVD with Thai subs all over the place!

Hero,

Thats what I figured...tons of channels with very little interesting on.

UBC came over and changed me from satellite to regular cable, but DID NOT take the satellite equipment.  I'm guessing, in theory I could hook it up to the downstairs TV and be in business.  I'll give it a couple of days and call UBC.

Sadly-confused

Under the UBC contract you bought the satellite equipment. sadly no you will not be able to use it as the sat will not be updating the unique key that enables your box to decode the data stream in future, you may be lucky for a few weeks but soon you will be getting "this service is currently scrambled" on every channel except possibly the 7 terrestrial Thai channels which I believe are not scrambled in the first place!
