WARNING - AVOID HOPERISING HUIZHOU!!!!!
« on: October 04, 2007, 10:32:48 PM »
This is the first time I have written in a forum but I just have to say that this is the worst place I have ever worked for.  They don't pay what they say they will - they even charge for training!! Two of my friends went to work for another school in the city and they threatened them (physically) until they fled the country. The management is a farse. The Chinese staff are poorly treated. There are plenty of really good schools in the city and Huizhou itself is lovely so dont get stuck with a school you can't stand but are scared to leave. Avoid Hope Rising and have a happy experience in China...

I worked for Hoperising for over a year and still keep a strong business relationship with them.   ( If you treat them nicely, they will treat you nicely. )

They have never messed with my pay.

I now run my own center, and I would like to charge people for training.
( Hoperising has never charged me or any of the other teachers I have known there, including the ones that are still there now.  )

Why would I like to charge for training you ask?  Because it COSTS us alot of time energy, money and resources to train new and old teachers.

The unfortunate fact about foreign teachers in China is that most of them are not real teachers and are just trying to make easy money.    ( Like the one who wrote the post I quoted below. )

I know the teachers you are talking about being "threatened", and I know for a fact that they were being threatened by the local mafia for not paying for their prostitutes and drugs.  When school admin get phone calls from pimps and dealers that puts the company's life on the line.

I've taught at plenty of schools in Huizhou and only found Hoperising to be good.   Thames is a good school ( in terms of teaching skill and ability ) from what I can see from the outside, since I never worked there.

However I can say that most of the Thames teachers consistently do not pay outsiders any respect even in passing on the street.
It is my belief that the company culture that exists there is elitist thereby minimizing the chance that any of Michelle's teachers will want to work anywhere else.

Take this and everything you read with a grain of salt.  There are alot of misfit foreigners living and "working" here in China that have nothing better to do with their lives than cause sh*t for others.

p.s. I worked as an employed teacher of Hoperising in 2005, and have done business with curriculum development, material sales and distribution since 2006.
