Visa Info for Mexico
« on: September 26, 2007, 09:40:30 PM »
Ok, I do part time private classes here in Thailand just for the fun of it. It keeps some extra cash in the pocket. Since I gave up teaching full time, visas are starting to get dodgy for me. Never know when the gate's going to close for good.

So what about Mexico? Does Mexico have free lance visas where I can teach part time?

There is a visa for free-lance teachers. It is the FM3 Independiente. It's a little illusive and mysterious, mostly because each immigration office (one or more in each state) pretty much opperates as the local officals see fit.  If you have a pension, you can also get a pensioners visa (there is a minium requirement, but I don't know what it is)--this does not allow you to work, legally.

Some schools will also get you a visa for only part time hours.

Someone in Mexico who has the independent FM3 handed me an immigration checklist last night showing what's needed, out of the Mexico City HQ anyway.

You need:
-official application form from immigration
-copy of your passport
-an original and a copy of your current visa (likely the tourist visa if you've just arrived)
-letter from an employer (if you are to be employed by someone) stating the nature of the work and pay, on official letterhead of the company
-a letter from the applicant explaining, in Spanish, your qualifications and reason for seeking the visa
-proof of where you live in Mexico, such as a lease, or phone or gas bill
-proof of qualifications - diploma, certificate, etc, etc

Thanks so much, Guy.  I shall give that info to the Irish lady down at pub.
