Abu Dhabi University: Do not work for them
« on: September 09, 2007, 11:05:09 PM »
I wanted to add Abu Dhabi University to the Hall of Shame, but couldn't get the system to work.
 {b<c>

Here is what i had to say. I hope others add more info.

The basic gist is: don't work for them!

I recommend strongly against working for this organization on their English Language Program in either their Abu Dhabi or Al Ain Campus.

There are several reasons:

1. They do not pay people on time or in full.
2. Their "management" do not communicate properly with the staff.
3. On a weekly basis they have threatened to withold the pay of teachers.
4. They have moved teachers four times in 3 months from one accommodation to another.
5. The list could go on. Other people there will be happy to tell you more.

If you decide to join in October/November 2007, get ready for a whole world of pain, because, to begin with, so many people are quitting and all the work will be dumped on you.

This is exactly the place to post it in order for it to enter into the Hall of Shame.

Can you give more details about the school? What kind of communication problems did you encounter?

Abu Dhabi University miscommunicate in several ways.

For example, they tell you that your flight will be reimbursed, and then decide that the flight won't be reimbursed, after you have paid for it.

They say that if you do extra work, you will be paid overtime, then don't give you the money.

They create a position, like head teacher, say there is more pay for it, and then say that the position no longer exists.

They don't pay in full or on time.

The list could go on. Others might add some details. They are getting a reputation for treating people badly, check out other forums.

When we were left unpaid, with absolutely no explanation, you can imagine that we started talking to each other and sending e-mails to find out what was going on. The mood was not good.

Several members of staff wrote to the bosses CCing the others to keep everyone in the picture.

The bosses weren't happy about this communication. (Obviously, they don't like communication at all - strange really, since that is what we are meant to be teaching!)

They wrote to us stating that sending CCs was intended to stir up anger and trouble and that we should desist.

This place is lousy. There are other stories that could be told, but the best thing to do is let others know that it is a terrible place to work and leave asap.
