Take a look at page 3 of this link.  Has anyone heard of this happening?

Yes sirree, that may be bigger news than the day the sheep ran after my elder brother because he was bothering them.

The poster mentioned that only two schools are approved...which two?   Perhaps TI is stretching its tentacles of evil even further.

My guess....Text and Talk and TI.

TEFL certification is not a requirement to get a Non-B or work permit in Thailand.

TI has no special license or approved license from MOE.  Call their Bang Phe office and ask to fax you the license they have.

Maybe Bruce is lying there so he can scare newbies to get certifications from him????

I can't see the CELTA not being one of the two.  Also, Chiang Mai University's program would have a very good shot at having been selected IMO. This assumes the "only two" thing is for real or that no program qualifies or they all qualify?  Or something in between?:2cents:

For what this is worth, the poster on ThaiVisa is foolforlove, who does not have many posts at all, and very few ever on the Teaching forum there.  That means his credibility is unproven.  His post today raises more questions than answers.

He says that the agency says that the Ministry person says various things.  Is that fourth hand rumour?  I have more direct knowledge of how my brother bothered the sheep.

I think the fans of Text and Talk have always said their program was very officially registered with the ministry.  They made a big deal of it, often.  foolfor love claims that his course was a TESOL (not TEFL) from AUA, in Thailand.  I believe my brother's story before foolforlove's story.  ;D

AUA does offer the SIT TESOL Certificate Course.

While foolforlove may be confused somewhat, I would not classify him a troll simply on the basis of how many posts he has or doesn't have on this or any other site.

What does not appear to be hearsay is his claim that the MoE rejected his certificate because it was done in Thailand and that he was told directly by an official at his teacher training program that they were aware of such a problem and had modified their certificate accordingly.

Unless both of these points are complete fabrications, it appears that something a little unusual may be going on somewhere in Thailand when it comes to the MoE and efl teaching certificates.

I do not say foolforlove is a troll, just that his low number of posts regarding teaching in Thailand does not give us much basis to judge his crudibility.   :didisay:  Now he clarified over on ThaiVisa what you've basically just said.

Yes, there may be officers at the MoE who pass judgement on TEFL certs based on whether those programs are certified by the MoE.

I wouldn't personally waste my money on a Thailand based TEFL course, not even a CELTA course, which is supposedly more rigourously monitored.
