Teaching in Thailand, in fact teaching TEFL most places, living at a reasonable and saving for retirement is basically a fools errand. Teaching as a stop gap in Thailand is nice but not finacially secure.
If you have even a 1/2 way decent retirement plan back home then Thailand can be a dream come true. my own pension right now is around 45k/month, when it kicks in fully, in 5 years time it will be around 85k, sorted :) However for that I worked like a slave for 25 years, worth it in the end, but I can see the attraction of Thailand for the younger guys, as long as they dont get into the trap.
