Chulalongkorn Go programme
« on: May 01, 2007, 02:10:02 pm »
I am asking if anyone of our members can assist me in providing possibly a review and indeed the e.mail addy or phone no of the Chulalongkorn Go Programme preferably the Seacon Square dept  ;)?

Having decided not to renew my contract at my current school due to their novel managemant scenario  :withstupid: I am considering applying at Chulalongkorn for Saturday and Sunday work.

Gives me the week free to be with my wife and our boys :happyjump:,provides a backup to my investment income from the U.K. :dancing:and also some sort of mental stimulation and social contact too {b<c>.

All replies greatly appreciated :uk: .

Thankyou  :respect:

There was a thread here about 9 months ago--the great unqualified teacher mystery.  There it was determined that some of their teachers were working on tourist visas, while other were encourage to submit fakes for WP.  Better bring your soap-on-a-rope jsut in case you get detained for 3 months or so.

Thank you all for the assistance rendered :happyjump:.

I don't have any problems regarding degre documents all genuine :respect:,I have lived here for 15 years and have legal status here so I am not too bothered about that side of things :jumpcig:.

However it is a sad comment on the state of affairs that such a place as Chula seems to resort to skullduggery ::),ah well it is a case of "T.I.T." I presume :shoothead:  :uk:.

I believe that was an entirely different enterprise.  Those teachers, I think, were said to be teaching in the university itself or in the demonstration school.  Also I think it turned out that they had probably been placed by an agency.

I have heard great things about the Chulalongkorn Go-Inter programme at Seacon - including a very decent hourly rate!

Chulalongkorn Go in Seacon is not an integral part of Chula Language Institute. The link appears to be tenuous.

To my knowledge, no farang teachers from Chula teach at this place.

I heard a rumour that one, or maybe two, of the Thai teachers in Chula have a private interest in this place as private individuals. I am unsure whether this is true. Even if it were, then that is their business. I have heard that the place is well-run and that the salaries are good.

Some may find it contentious that the place uses the name, and suggests an association. I am unsure what the law is re. copyright of names etc. Perhaps anyone can open a Mahidol Bookshop or Thammasat Coffee lounge.

If you applied for weekend work, you would not be working for the university. Chula lecturers need to have (at least) a master's and considerable teaching experience in addition to CELTA or DELTA. The selection procedure is quite rigorous, as you would expect, and includes a three-hour theoretical paper as well as  a teaching demo with a full class, and panel interview. Certificates, transcripts and references are always checked, and you will not be allowed to work on a tourist visa or any other dodgy basis. If you fit the bill, which you may well do... you may wish to apply for a university post, but the two places are quite different. If you became a Chula instructor, you would work a normal week, but there could be the possibility of some form of weekend work from time to time. I suspect also that the client groups (students) are dissimilar, with more younger kids at Seacon.

Good luck.
