Yo, my friends, just click on the link to the blacklist. It's all in Korean, but you can make out the names of those on the list. It sucks big time. It's time some of those Koreans get listed here to make things even, ya'all.

Can someone tell me exactly why we need to give an ATM card/ open a bank account for the after school program?  My new school required this of me and, come to think of it, it seems pretty shady.

I taught in Korea a long time ago (1996-98) and learned some Korean doing it, but it's been a long time away from it so I can't reliably translate anything I see at the site. However, I've seen my full name written in the Korean language (Han Gul) so I don't recognize any of the Korean script at that site as being the names of farang.

Korean names consist of three syllables. Each syllable has two consonants and one vowel, such as Kim Dal Jung, Kim being the family or surname. At the above referenced site I see two syllable words only listed in Korean, which would not be farang names as I recall it.

Also, as I clearly recall it, farang names are written in complete names in the Korean, such as George W. Bush. I don't recognize any Korean script at the site as consiting of foreign names. To illustrate, George W. Bush written in Korean would appear something as follows: fjrudkeisslos  xp aqzslxslck but of course in Korean language characters which are geometric (circles, rectangles, triangles, straight lines, right angles etc).

As in China, Korean dates are: yyyy day month.

Dunno what to make of it. I'll ask some Korean friends I still have contact with in Korea what they know or can make of the site and listings. Gimme a few days.

Yep, a teacher Blacklist it is. I've been advised by friends teaching in Korea, where I once taught, that the Ministry of Educaton in Korea has in fact established a BLACKLIST of foreign teachers.

It unfortunately is the usual bullshit. Teachers get blacklisted for working illegally when it's their private school employers who hired them without paperwork and without any intention of ever getting the foreign teacher the required paperwork.

Fake degrees also are a cause for Blacklisting in Korea and we know who the source of fake degrees is in Korea just as well as we know who orders or encourages farang teachers in Thailand to obtain the same bogus documents. And who suffers? The foreign teacher in Korea as well as in Thailand.

Criminal convictions also are a basis of Blacklisting in Korea. Sounds reasonable. Maybe the authorities in Korea are hoping this legitimate sounding requirements will help make their other bogus criteria for Blacklisting a teacher sound credible and valid.

The link provided by Andy left me uncertain because of my creaky Korean from teaching so long ago there. What shows on the link in Korean (Han Gul) is the gender and the nationality but not the name. If anyone wants the process in the link to find specific names I can post it but not presently as I have to dash off the a class full of eager students (!).
