Note: I was asked to post this straight away to give a heads up to teacher!

Having been hired by the Canadian Center on December 19, of last year and working there for 7 days, and dismissed from employment on January 12, it came as no shock to see another opening at the school midyear.
I know that my position was filled almost immediately afterwards by a woman teacher living in the same apartment complex in tuxtla gutierrez as I was when I was there, so unless that person also was discharged, then another person must have walked out or been fired as the new sudden opening comes in mid semester.
other people on this website have complained about the director's anal behaviour. She severely reprimands teachers for not erasing their blackboards, leaving the lights on, leaving the eraser face down and getting chalk dust on the table, leaving AC on, etc. etc. She has been known to berate employees publicly in front of students and staff, for several minutes of tirades.

In my case, she took me to task the second day of employment for giving out the homework written assignments the same time as the reading assignment. Yes, I should have known better, I readily agreed with her but it did not make any difference and she warned me that any other serious infractions and I would lose my job.

(The educational policy at the school is that the students are assigned readings from their Cambridge University textbooks, SIDE BY SIDE, first, then teachers go over that material in class and then and only then assign the written assignments for the following day)

She fired me the next week on account of the following infractions-

1) Spending 15 minutes on vocabulary instead of only five.

2) Spending 40 minutes on SNAPSHOTS, when only 25 was more than sufficient. No, I did not spend that much time on that lesson, but she insisted I had.

3) Not having enough group conversation and too much paired conversations. She had insisted that 65% of all conversations be group, and yes mine was more like 40%. Of that I was guilty.

4) Not pairing the poor students with the better students properly in paired and group discussions. Sorry lady but after only 5 days of instruction I still don`t have it down who are the better students when I am teaching 50 plus students.

So be warned if you apply for the position. She is extremely difficult to work for.

Too hot in Tuxtla, anyway.  They call themselves "rabbits." 

That school sounds like it needs to be avoided at all costs.

I agree that it's way too hot in Tuxtla! I spent two days there once and was covered by a heat rash by the time I left. But I think mountain living has caused my skin to forget what it is like to sweat!
