Underhand practices.
« on: February 12, 2006, 10:28:19 am »
Whilst trawling through the jobs offered on 'ajarn.com " I found to my suprise that the school I am currently working for is advertising for staff.

None of us are leaving and the school is not growing either.

However I note the hours of work have gone from 20 to 22 contact hours and a four day week is offered, the salary level has dropped by anything from 5000 to 10000 Baht. per month !! >:D

This school is charging around 40,000 baht a term for the E.P. They use volunteer teachers from one of Bangkoks agencies for
14000 BAHT A MONTH.

Edit? - Try not to attack specific nationalities please.

Well I am on my way out and I am not telling the bastards either.

I have been noticing that as well, wages seem to be stagnant or falling. A few years ago, every teacher at a government school walked because wages were dropped, but things evened themselves out rather quickly. Now, a lot of schools are deciding to keep wages stagnant or even drop them.

Schools get rid of teacher who demand more and hire those who are happy to have the job at a lower salary. I guess I can't put my fingers many examples, but I hear a lot of things and this is what I am hearing, lower wages are in the offing. It doesn't surprise me.

Thailand has become one of the largest markets for TEFL teachers, they say there are 5,000 tefl teachers in Korea, well there are as many, if not more here in Thailand. China, ok more in China, Japan, don't know? Latin America? More in Thailand than any countries over there? There are so many damn ep programs and the market here is not in institutes, it is in schools, more so than any country except China.

So many schools have added EP or English programs in the last 3 years that within a year or two, there will be no new programs. Schools that have opened EP programs will have all of their staff and with the supply of teachers dramtically increasing, there is a coming glut in the teaching market, maybe we are already seeing that now? Add to that programs that fail becaus eof mismanagement and a get rich mentality and you have can make a case that there will be fewer teaching jobs in Thailand 3 years from now then there are now. Money rules things in Thailand, so expect salaries to fall.

I think if you all look at the topic that is now locked concerning "Panaya Phattakarn School" you will be able to form your own conclusions as to the school and also the conduct of  its staff and management.
