Native Tongue is Canadian owned and operated, in its tenth year of operation in Colombia and is registered with the Secretary of Education. We operate two schools in different cities, Ibague and Pereira.

Ibague is 200 km. South-West of Bogota with 600,000 inhabitants and most modern amenities. The city is situated in a valley surrounded by tropical mountains and has a climate that is near perfect, normally reaching 28 and dropping to 18 at night.

Pereira is 140 km North-West of Ibague, in the rolling hills of the coffee growing region. Including the surrounding towns, it has a population of around 1,000,000 and is quite modern. The climate is also very comfortable, more tropical with a slightly cooler daytime average temperature of 23.

Although Colombia does have some political and economic problems, safety is no more a concern than it would be in any large North American city. The people are very sociable and both theses cities are vibrant with activity and nightlife. The classrooms, equipment and ideas are all modern and classes are very dynamic for both the student and teacher.

We are looking for experienced CANADIAN teachers to start work in January 2012. A clear voice with a neutral “North American” accent is important. An outgoing, energetic person is a must. Spanish is not necessary.

We offer:
-A salary of 1,200,000 Colombian Pesos monthly (approx. $650.00 Canadian).
-Airfare compensation of 3,300,000 Colombian Pesos (approx. $1,800.00 Canadian), paid upon completion of an eleven-month contract.
-A written contract which meets all local standards and practices.
-Full assistance in obtaining a work-visa, paid for by the school. All foreign teachers at Native Tongue require a work-visa. For your own security please do not accept positions at other schools without a visa, as it is illegal and has serious consequences in Colombia.
-Medical insurance arranged and paid in part by the school. This is a broad coverage including emergency and regular care as well as drug and dental.
-Home stay or assistance in finding an apartment, with cost supplemented by Native Tongue.
-Two weeks paid vacation, one at Easter and one in late June.
-Full academic support including the direction and materials needed to teach your classes.
-Possible contract renewals including other school locations and management positions.

We require:
-A native English speaker willing to sign an eleven-month contract.
-Experience in teaching English, preferably EFL overseas.
-An English teaching certificate is a must (TESOL etc.). No degree is required.
-28 hours per week of in-class teaching at various times from 7:00am – 9:00pm Tuesday through Friday and Saturday 8:00am – 5:00pm. There are no classes on Sundays. You may be required to work “split-shifts”, for example mornings and evenings.
-One to teach classes of all levels and ages. The majority of students are young adults and class sizes are typically up to 15 (occasionally special groups are larger).
-A professional attitude. Although teaching overseas is all about the experience of travelling and being immersed into new cultures, Native Tongue abides by its contracts and expects teachers to do the same.

Note:
The cost of living in Ibague or Pereira is relatively low, even compared to Bogota. The salary is sufficient to live comfortably including regular eating-out and entertainment, however one shouldn’t expect to leave with savings or pay previous debts.

To be considered for a position:
Send by e-mail a cover letter and complete resume including a telephone number and your photo. Do not include certificates, diplomas or letters of reference (these may be requested at a later time).
Your e-mail will be reviewed ONLY if you follow these instructions.
Please be prepared to demonstrate your English by phone. If English is not your first language please do not apply.
If you are not serious about accepting this position, or are not available when required please do not apply at this time.
If you qualify you will be contacted, at which time we will answer any questions you may have. Due to the volume of e-mails received, not all applicants will be contacted, but please watch for future job postings and re-apply.

Thai, Japanese, Korean and of course Indonesian dishes are easily found. Gracias is a major tourist area of Honduras, having the tallest mountain in Honduras (Celaque), delicious Hot Springs, as well as being the root of the Lenca Civilization.

Minerva School has a total of 250 students, 15% of which are of limited resources and are sponsored by the school. The school has all grade levels from pre-school up to eleventh grade.

• 100% bilingual education
• Civic-cultural values
• Christian formation

You are going to love the uniqueness, historical background, and closeness to nature that Gracias, Lempira possesses.

New Horizons School (Centro Educativo Nuevos Horizontes) is looking for a teacher to fulfill a contract from January 15th, 2012 through November 20th, 2012. The open position is primarily teaching English to students in primary school, but the schedule includes environmental education, music, art, and physical education.

New Horizons School (CENH) is a small, private bilingual institution in the heart of Honduras. San Francisco de la Paz is a rural community about 45 minutes from Juticalpa, which is the capital of the department Olancho.

What we are looking for:

A responsible, professional individual that holds the best interests of the student first. We are seeking someone with experience studying or working in a developing country that will not have problems adjusting to the rural Honduran environment. The ideal candidate will have experience living abroad, a 4 year college degree and previous fluency in Spanish. The English classes at this point are about 50/50 English and Spanish. In addition to responsibilities as a teacher, we would like a candidate who will be able to help form a curriculum and use their skills to participate in projects outside of the classroom.

What we provide:

Airfare will be reimbursed via monthly installments added onto your paycheck. Your salary is commensurate with the standard local salary of 6,000 Lempira, which is about 315 dollars per month. We have found that this is more than enough to live on. CENH provides housing, where you will be living with 3 other volunteers. The house is in excellent condition and extremely safe. The town in general has been very welcoming to our presence.

It will be necessary to take at least one visa renewal trip to a surrounding country. This trip will be paid for and is a good opportunity to travel and experience the region on paid vacation.

After the rest of this contract is fulfilled, we are definitely interested in faculty that would like to stay on for the next year.

If you would like to research our institution further, please check out our website at cenh.org or look for our facebook page

Search: Nuevos Horizontes Centro Educativo on Facebook.

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to hondurascenh@gmail.com
Please put Volunteer Opportunity CENH in the subject line and address all cover letters to Patrick McGrady.

In the cover letter, please detail any experience abroad as well as any experience in education.
We will have a short Skype interview with qualified candidates.

Malaysia, a tropical paradise, is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world. With its three major ethnic groups all living in harmony and the shared, laid-back sense of fun, it is one of the best places in the world to teach English.

Malaysia is as diverse as its culture. Cool hideaways are found in the highlands that roll down to warm, sandy beaches and rich, humid mangroves.

The garden city of Seremban is located about an hour’s drive south of the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Seremban is famous for its food, architecture and laid-back lifestyle. Close to the popular seaside town of Port Dickson, hot springs and natural jungle and surrounded by rolling hills, Seremban is a choice destination for nature lovers and those who enjoy an active lifestyle.

About us:
Emphasis English Academy is a small, rapidly growing, English language centre. Since 2004, we have been developing a reputation as one of the premier English language centres in Malaysia. We are opening our second branch in Seremban in August, 2011 and are currently hiring two full-time teachers for this centre.

Our academic programs:
* Class size is limited to 12, but average about 7. Most students attend pre-school or primary school but there are also growing numbers of young learners and adult conversational English groups. English levels range from beginner to advanced.
* Our school has a comprehensive language resource library.
* Teachers are provided with a comprehensive syllabus for each course but are encouraged to adapt the course for their individual teaching style and their students’ needs.

Requirements:
1)Applicants must be 25 years old or older (to be eligible for a work permit).
2)Have an recognised teaching qualification (e.g. CELTA, degree in relevant subject, etc)
3)The ability to teach a range of courses to students of different age groups.
4)Be a national of the U.K., Ireland, Australia or New Zealand.

What we offer:
1)A salary of RM3,000 per month. While not exactly ’big money’ it is enough to live very comfortably on in Malaysia.
2)A renewable two year contract.
3)A full working visa.
4)Accommodation within walking distance of your designated centre.
5)One return flight per year.
6)A five day working week (Weds to Sun).
7)Overtime if you are required to teach for more than 28 hours per week.

As we begin the new hiring season in Thailand, now is the time to be vigilant. Beware of unscrupulous recruiters and schools that attempt to defraud, lie, cheat or otherwise misrepresent schools. This message is primarily directed towards teachers from the Philippines, but contains information usable by everyone contemplating a teaching stint in Thailand.

Filipinos are being actively recruiting for positions in Thailand. Unfortunately, these recruiters are interested primarily in lining their own pockets. You will not find any legal recruiters for teaching positions in Thailand inside the Philippines because schools in Thailand do not typically utilize these types of recruiters. A lot of recruiting for jobs in Thailand is done by Filipinos who return to the Philippines on vacation.

I would like to share some facts about teaching in Thailand for Filipinos.

- You will probably earn between 10,000 to 15,000 baht per month and it may or may not include housing. Some do indeed earn up to 30,000 baht per month, but on the same token, there are Filipino English teachers in Thailand earning only 7,000 baht per month.

- You need a four year degree and you need to be able to verify that the degree is legitimate. The times of using a Recto Avenue degree have past. In fact, several teachers have been arrested and deported from Thailand because they used a fake degree.

- You need a copy of your NBI clearance. There is talk that no visa will be issued without it.

- Visas are getting more difficult to obtain. The visas are only obtained outside of Thailand. Also, you are limited to only 3 30-day entries per 180 days. Filipinos have been denied entry for exceeding them. A lot of teachers in the past have worked illegally on tourist permits, but that time has come and gone.

- You may be subject to extra requirements as whimsically decided by Thai officials. What does this mean? You may need to take a TOEFL or IELTS test in order to get your teacher’s license. It may mean that you are simply denied the work permit because of your looks.

- You should never pay a recruiter a fee to give you some sort of certificate that guarantees you can teach in Thailand.

These are the facts that illegal recruiters will not tell you. They will tell you about fantastic riches. In fact, we have an institute in our Hall of Shame named OLA. This institute recruits Filipinos with the promise of wealth, but ends up abandoning the teachers after they have finished the course. Some are sent to non-existent jobs, some are told just to bugg off.

One recruiter I know of brought several teachers from a central Philippine island. These teachers paid $500 each for a short certificate course and placement in a school. Upon arrival, they were shoved into an old apartment building, several teachers per room. When they finally got a placement, one teacher ended up in a school earning 300 baht per day and wasn’t paid for holidays or weekends. She was living in an old decrepit building.

Don’t trust the recruiters who tell you about coming to Thailand. They will only help you in one way…relieving you of your hard earned savings or worse yet, put your family in debt to the local 5/6 man. It is better that you research it on your own. If you really want to come to Thailand, there are opportunities to teach English and you can earn a decent salary if you do your homework and are patient, but having a recruiter will not magically make it happen. If you do use a recruiter, you will probably end up looking for the job on your own and be several hundred dollars lighter. The choice is up to you.
